We get a lot of interesting e-mail at Spectator, but my favorite e-mails by far over the past few weeks have been the ones from the pro-pigeon lobby.
Yes, the pro-pigeon lobby. Back in November, a city councilman proposed a law that would increase penalties for pigeon-feeding, and this really stirred up pigeon activists (we covered it in Spec: http://www.columbiaspectator.com/node/28703 ). You might not think that there would be many people willing to devote actual time to writing pigeon-defending e-mails, but you’d be wrong. What follows is a sampling of some of the best pigeon-related e-mails sent to Spectator:

“Among other unconsidered effects, the vicious anti-Pigeon legislation grievously wounds members of the elderly population of New York, those who have for many generations found comfort, beauty and opportunity for social interaction in feeding these resilient birds, and who will now recieve thousand-dollar fines for their crime. Pigeons are very much a part of the life and character of our city, but that means little to those who might next announce a pogrom on squirrels as they pave over our parks.”
